Elegant, modern and durable, stone composite flooring or SPC, is also known as luxury vinyl planking. It is the number one selling commercial flooring in the United States! Laminate flooring is also a popular choice. Both are durable options that are available in a variety of colors and textures, including those resembling natural hardwood flooring. So, what’s the difference between the two types of flooring?
Laminate flooring, on the other hand, is made from layers of wood composite, wood pulp and paper. Both heat and cold can cause changes in the flooring because of the wood pulp in it.
Why choose SPC over laminate flooring? It’s 100% waterproof! Laminate flooring is easy to damage if any water gets in between the planks or into the many layers of the product. Because there’s natural wood fiber in laminate flooring, it will swell with any moisture. It’s far from ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, gyms, spas, salons or any other high-moisture environment.
Both laminate and SPC are lower cost than other high-quality types of flooring, such as finished concrete, carpeting, and ceramic tile. Both work with a lot of existing floorings as the underlayment and are relatively easy to install, even for DIY’ers. But SPC lasts a lot longer than laminate, mostly thanks to its water-resistant properties and resistance to dents and dings. It’s much harder to scratch than laminate is.
Because it’s so durable and stain-resistant, SPC doesn’t require expensive professional cleaning treatments. It’s UV-resistant too, so it won’t fade like other types of flooring can. All of that adds up to a gorgeous floor for years to come! If replacement planks are needed, they can also be installed easily. Laminate repairs are difficult and may require pulling up a large section of the existing floor.
